Google Plus Communities: A List of Communities for Online Marketers

I have to admit, I joined a few Google Plus (Google+) Communities when they were announced to understand how they work for clients, but it has taken me a bit of time to find a group of communities that are useful for me as an online marketer.

I love Google+ Communities. They allow me to share my #soyallergy posts to that community without broadcasting them to everyone else who follows me on Google+, and I have a few groups that I’m a part of that are using a private Google+ community as a way to share bookmarks (kind of like a private intranet, no software required).

Participating in Google Plus Communities is a great way to build your personal brand and gain followers, as well as stay on top of industry changes and get a chance to ask questions of experts in the field.

Here’s my list of Google Plus Communities useful for professionals who do online marketing:

Google Analytics Community

You can ask questions, share information, and get involved in Google Analytics. The moderators are veterans in web analytics such as Daniel Waisberg from Online Behavior, David Eckerman from Cardinal Path, and even the official Google Analytics team.

Google+ Discuss Community

A place where people can get together to share ideas, trade tips and tricks, and learn how to get the most out of Google+. Moderated by Google.

Google+ Updates

Your community to discuss any Google+ updates. This is the community to speculate what updates might be coming, report updates you might have found, and debate which updates you like or don’t like. Moderated by folks from Google Plus Daily.

G+ Resource

A relatively new community moderated by a “G+ consultant” out of the UK, but it has a wealth of G+ resources, research and articles.

Technical SEO

This community is for SEOs to discuss the technical issues around building sites aimed at performing really well – for Google and users. The look at new technology and methodologies, help each other solve technical problems, and create experiments. Moderated by smart people like Bill SlawskiAleyda Solis and others…

Google Authorship & AuthorRank

This community hosts discussions and news updates relating to Google Authorship, and the Google Author Rank search ranking factor. It is moderated by AJ KohnBill SlawskiChris LangEmmett Smith, and Mark Traphagen

And last but not least, the Google+ Community I created today for the folks who get to get together in the greater Washington DC area to talk about online marketing.

Online Marketing in DC Metro Area @SEMdmv

A group is for all of the professionals in the Greater Washington DC area that do online marketing or digital marketing work. Many of us get together as a regular Meetup  and follow @SEMdmv. Moderated by me and others.

I found a few more worth mentioning:

SEO Hangout panel

Here’s their description: Every week we run SEO-related hangouts on air. Before we open the hangout up for public we like to invite a few special people in first. This is our SEO Expert Panel, a group of trusted SEO professionals who are knowledgeable, helpful and willing to join the discussion. Right now their panelist include some of the same smart people that are a part of the Google Authorship Google+ Community mentioned above.

Local SEO news

Here’s their description: Local SEO News Community is a place where local search experts can share ideas, tips and strategies, and business owners or new online marketers can learn, keep up to date with new updates, and get your questions answered. Moderated by Luis Galarza from LocalMarketingVoice.com, and Blair Warner

Social Media

Here’s their description: Tweet it, like it, +1 it, Instagram it, share it – however you get social, let’s talk about it here. Beginners, seasoned pros, somewhere in the middle – let’s all learn from each other. Moderated by Scott Kleinberg the social media editor at the Chicago Tribune.
