The Sound of Rain Falling...
Background: Perhaps you have done this
activity before and if you have, you know it's a great way to simulate
the sound of a rainstorm.
Grade Level: Any
Duration: 5-10 minutes
Materials: None
Method: Have the students sit in a circle
and explain to them that all they need to do is repeat the action done
by the person to their right. This must be done in perfect silence. You
start the motion by rubbing your hands together. Once all the students
are rubbing their hands together, start snapping your fingers; then once
all the students are snapping their fingers, start clapping your hands;
then when all are clapping their hands, start clapping your hands and
stomping your feet. Then do all the motions in descending order. Go from
stomping your feet and clapping your hands to clapping your hands, then
snapping your fingers, then rubbing your hands together, then complete
silence. The effect of this activity is moving and you may want to do
it more than once.
