The Rainforest Preservation Foundation

The Rainforest Preservation Foundation is a non-profit foundation that is purchasing and preserving an acre of rainforest in the Brazilian Amazon Basin for each $25.00 donation it gets. It was founded in October 1991, and in that short time has been able to acquire over 300,000 acres for preservation. They will be purchasing another 1.15 million acres and have purchased options on over 50 million acres.

The Rainforest Preservation Foundation has a foundation in Fort Worth, Texas that has a non-profit 501 (c)(3) status and a sister foundation in Brazil that has the status of Public Utility and is tax exempt on the lands owned. The U.S foundation raises the money and sets up the trust fund and the Brazilian foundation holds title to the land. The indigenous peoples are encouraged to hunt, fish, gather, and live -just not destroy the forest. The foundation is in fact able to pay some of these people a salary to help keep watch over the land. The trust fund will be used for these salaries. Those who give a donation of $25.00 or more receive a preservation deed and an annual newsletter.
