Express Yourself

Grade Level: Any
Duration: 15-30 minutes
Materials: paper and art supplies
Subjects: English and Art
Objective: This activity gives
the students a chance to express their feelings about the rainforest and
its destruction.
Method: After being bombarded
by a mass amount of depressing information, many students need to express
themselves through art or writing in order to handle all they've learned.
So, after giving them the materials they need, instruct them to write
either about something in the presentation that impressed them, or a letter
to an official expressing their feeling about the rainforest. If they
like to draw, have them draw a picture of their favorite animal, or a
poster to put up around school educating their fellow students about the
rainforest.

"Do not try to satisfy your vanity
by teaching a great many things. Awaken people's curiosity. It is enough
to open minds; do not overload them. Put there just a spark. If there
is some good inflammable stuff, it will catch fire." -Anatole France
